OurSpace programs are designed for children, teens, and adults with special needs and abilities, along with their families who want to live a full Jewish life, with friends and community. OurSpace offers opportunities for life-long Jewish learning, celebrating Shabbat, holidays, life cycle events, and participating in tikkun olam, repairing our world.
OurSpace embraces each individual’s unique style of learning and expression while celebrating their strengths and abilities. The professional staff follows a differentiated approach to instruction and programming in order to reach and teach the participants who exhibit a variety of skills, strengths, learning and social challenges. With an emphasis on experiential learning through the arts, multi-modality and multi-sensory experiences, the participants can be actively engaged in the learning. For the past three decades, these programs and experiences have enabled and empowered the participants and their families to become active members in the community at large.
OurSpace classes are warm and safe places in which each student’s placement is based upon individual’s abilities and needs. The OurSpace director and staff seek to meet the educational, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of the participants, as well as those of their families. All of this result in a warm environment where creative teachers and coordinators use differentiated instructional techniques,so that students can thrive socially, emotionally, and spiritually.
OurSpace brings parents together in a space each month to network, share, learn, schmooze, and build community. Parent Chats give parents an opportunity to learn from each other, from professionals, authors, movie makers, community leaders, and clergy. Parents find a common language, feel supported, understood, and comfortable to create friendships and build community.
